PM to politicians: Don't exploit flooding for political gain | Bangkok Post: news

Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha thanks all who have provided assistance to flood-hit people but does not want politicians to exploit the situation for political gain, government spokesman Lt Gen Sansern Kaewkamnerd said on Sunday. "But the prime minister does not want politicians to exploit the situation for political gain by making false accusations against the government and creating rumours to cause the public to panic. Despite knowing how large the volume of rainwater was, the then-government did not rush to drain the water, causing considerable damage to the country," said Lt Gen Sansern, referring to the Yingluck Shinawatra administration. As a result, equipment needed for relief operations - such as vehicles fitted with power generators and water pumps, flat-bottom boats and trucks - have been sent to flood-hit areas. Walls of sandbags have been built and evacuation centres set up to distribute food, drinking water and survival gear to affected people, Lt Gen Sansern added.
